What happens

Bishop Henry Brougham is struggling to raise money for a new cathedral while his wife Julia grows unhappy in their marriage. A mysterious stranger named Dudley arrives at the Brougham house, claiming to be an angel sent in answer to the bishop's prayer, and quickly takes on the role of his assistant. Dudley joins Julia for lunch, meets Professor Wutheridge, and becomes a constant presence in the household. Radio presenters introduce the program as a Christmas holiday presentation of The Bishop's Wife, starring Tyrone Power, David Niven and Jane Greer. The dramatization follows the couple's Christmas season and the questions Dudley's presence raises.

A late December city in a shabby section of town, the Brougham house, and a restaurant at Michel's.

Characters: Bishop Henry Brougham, Julia Brougham, Dudley, Professor Wutheridge, Debbie, Matilda, Miss Casaway, Mrs. Hamilton

Listen for: Dudley's unexplained arrival and his conversation with Henry in the study.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
