What happens

Magazine editor George Stroud, who has a gift for tracking down criminals, is pressed by publisher Earl Janoth to stay on the job when he longs for a honeymoon with his wife Helen. Their plans collide with Janoth's demands and a growing web of secrets at the Janoth Building, where a famous privately owned clock keeps watch over the company's offices. The broadcast is a Lux Radio Theatre production starring Ray Milland and Maria Sullivan, adapted from the novel The Big Clock, and this part of the story is drawn from the opening portion of the play.

Midtown New York City, at the fifty-story Janoth Building and its publishing offices

Characters: George Stroud, Helen Stroud, Earl Janoth, Steve Higgins, Pauline York, Jefferson Randolph

Listen for: The tension between George's career and his wish for a honeymoon with Helen, and the moment Janoth's office conversation turns to the clock and the hidden listening devices

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
