What happens
Elizabeth Barrett lives an invalid's confined life at 50 Wimpole Street in London under the strict control of her father, Mr. Barrett. Her brothers and sisters tiptoe around the house and her father forbids most visitors. When the poet Robert Browning calls on her, he speaks boldly of his feelings and their mutual love of poetry, and Elizabeth is drawn to him despite her fears. Later, her improving health and a plan to travel to Italy in October bring a new family conflict. This is a dramatization of the Lux Radio Theatre production of The Barretts of Wimpole Street, broadcast on September 9, 1946, starring Loretta Young and Brian Aherne.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
