What happens
Robert Browning visits Elizabeth Barrett, an invalid poet confined to her room at 50 Wimpole Street in London. Her father, Mr. Barrett, rules the household harshly, and Elizabeth's health is weak, with her doctor offering little hope of improvement. Her cousin Bella and Captain Surtees Cook are calling at the house, and Henrietta hopes to receive her own visitor. Browning, an admirer of Elizabeth's verses, arrives and quickly declares his feelings, while Elizabeth is caught between her fondness for him and her fear of her father's anger. This is a radio adaptation of the play, which was based on the Broadway stage production, and the Lux Radio Theatre presents it with Loretta Young as Elizabeth and Brian Aherne as Robert. The broadcast aired on September 9, 1946.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
