What happens

In Full of Junction, Wisconsin, during the early 1940s, young Selma Jacobson befriends the new schoolteacher, Viola Johnson, while the local editor, Nelson Halverson, shows interest in her. Selma's father, Pa Jacobson, struggles to pay for a new barn, and Selma's sense of ownership is tested when she is told that everything on the farm belongs to the whole family. Margaret O'Brien, James Craig and Frances Gifford star in this Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer story, adapted for Lux Radio Theatre. The broadcast is dated September 2, 1946, and its first part introduces the family, the schoolteacher and the town's quiet rivalries.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
