What happens

Lena Aysgarth, a single young woman, falls in love with the charming but penniless Johnny Aysgarth after a brief courtship, and the two marry quickly. Lena's father, Stanley, expects his daughter to be cared for, but Johnny has no money of his own and has borrowed heavily from a friend. Johnny insists Lena's inheritance is a matter for later, and the couple move into an expensive house. Lena begins to notice troubling discrepancies in her husband's stories. This is part of the Lux Radio Theatre series, adapted from the RKO film Suspicion, aired on May 4, 1942, starring Joan Fontaine and Brian Aherne with Nigel Bruce.

The English countryside and town, including the Aysgarth family home and the new house the couple rents.

Listen for: Lena's growing doubts about Johnny's explanations, including the story of the missing Queen Anne chairs and the account of how he came by his money.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
