What happens

After the First World War, Captain Stephen Sorrow takes his young son Kit to the town of Staunton, where a planned job falls through when his prospective employer dies. Stephen's dedication to giving Kit a good future costs him dearly, and his hard labor wears him down. Starring Herbert Marshall as Stephen Sorrow, with Richard Carlson and Karen Morley, this adaptation of the Warwick Deeping novel is presented on the Lux Radio Theatre. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
