What happens

Selena Peake, left alone in Chicago after her father is shot in a gambling house brawl, takes a teaching post in the farm country of High Prairie. There she meets Pervis De Jong, a farmer who asks her to marry him. Their life together is one of hard labor on the land, and Selena's dreams for the farm clash with Pervis's stubborn ways. This episode of the Lux Radio Theatre dramatizes the novel So Big, with Barbara Stanwick, Preston Foster, Fay Ray and Otto Kruger. It first aired on March 13, 1939.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
