What happens

Peter Warren, a fired New York newspaper reporter, is stranded in Miami when he meets Ellie Andrews, a wealthy banker's daughter who has run away from her father's yacht. Peter recognizes her as the subject of a news story and sees a chance to get an exclusive story, so he sets out with her on a cross-country bus trip to New York. The Lux Radio Theatre presents this adaptation of the 1934 film It Happened One Night, with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in the lead roles and Walter Connolly and Roscoe Karns in supporting roles. The broadcast is from 1939, and the story follows the pair as they travel together and grow wary of each other.

Miami, Florida, and the bus route toward New York, including a rain-soaked tourist cabin camp.

Characters: Peter Warren, Ellie Andrews, Shapely, Mr. Andrews, Harry Gordon, King Wesley

Listen for: The bus terminal scenes, Peter's sparring with Ellie, and the tourist cabin with the blanket 'wall of Jericho'.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
