What happens
Joe Beebe, a restless young man, clashes with his brother David over money and the family's struggling household in a small town before the war. Their widowed mother presses them to earn their keep through singing and music gigs, and tensions rise when Joe takes David's girlfriend Martha out while David is working. Joe's hot temper and frustration with his limited prospects drive the story as the household's ties are tested. The Lux Radio Theatre presents this 1945 adaptation of the Paramount film Sing You Sinners, starring Bing Crosby, James Dunn, Joan Caulfield and Elizabeth Patterson, on May 7, 1945.
A modest family home in a small town, with a roadhouse and a dance hall nearby, in the years before the war.
Characters: Joe Beebe, David Beebe, Martha, Mrs. Beebe, Michael Beebe
Listen for: The bickering between Joe and David over money and Martha, and the songs performed at the roadhouse.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
