What happens
Captain Nathan Brittles, nearing retirement at Fort Starke in 1876, faces an uneasy frontier as Indian tribes unite after Custer's defeat. When the paymaster is found murdered and his coach shot full of arrows, Brittles is ordered to escort the post's women, including Olivia Dandridge, toward Soudreau's Wells, where the stage east departs. Lieutenants Cohill and Pennell both court Olivia, and their rivalry grows as the patrol rides into hostile country. This Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, from the story by James Warner Bellah, was broadcast on March 12, 1951, with John Wayne, Mel Ferrer and Mala Powers in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
