What happens
Dr. Clinton Reed of the United States Public Health Service investigates the death of an unidentified man on a southern city's waterfront. Captain Warren of the police works with him as they learn the man was carrying pneumonic plague, a disease that could spread quickly, and must find the killer before the plague does. Reed is driven by fear of an epidemic, while Warren is skeptical of his urgency. Together they trace the dead man's movements through the docks, a shrimp boat, and the city's restaurants. The Lux Radio Theatre production of Panic in the Streets aired on March 5, 1951, starring Richard Widmark, Paul Douglas and Joyce Mackenzie.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
