What happens

Sergeant Major Bill Bailey, a veteran Marine, is stationed in the Philippines in 1943 and drills his battalion hard. His wife Jenny and daughter Helen live in the pacifist settlement of Balagan, where Bill's frequent Marine service has strained their marriage. Bill wants one last chance at active service before retirement, and he pleads with his colonel to be allowed to go with the first battalion. This is Lux Radio Theatre's 1943 broadcast of Salute to the Marines, starring Wallace Beery and Fay Bainter. The original air date was November 8, 1943.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
