What happens
Johnny Cornell and his singing partner Trudy Evans perform in the Barbary Coast saloon of Sharky, a rival owner who throws them out after their new act fails. Johnny stakes his savings on a prospector's gold scheme, then turns to a street performance outside Sharky's place to win back customers. His rise to owning his own cafes begins to bring him into contact with San Francisco's wealthy society, where he meets Bernice Croft. Trudy watches as Johnny pursues this new world, and her own feelings for him remain unspoken. The episode is a Lux Radio Theatre production of the 1943 romance Hello Frisco Hello, starring Alice Faye and Robert Young.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
