What happens

Army nurses Davy, Joan and Olivia are evacuated from the fallen Philippine fortress of Corregidor and sail toward an uncertain future aboard a ship that has been at sea for weeks. Davy, a senior nurse, tries to keep the group together while Olivia, a survivor bitter over personal loss, resists everyone's efforts to reach her. Among the passengers are Kansas, a Marine, and John Summers, a chemistry professor turned medical technician, whose growing feelings for Davy complicate her sense of duty. This Lux Radio Theatre production, presented on Monday evenings, is adapted from the Paramount film and stars Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard and Veronica Lake, with Sunny Tufts and Les Tremayne. It first aired on November 1, 1943.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
