What happens

Maxim de Winter, a widower of Manderley, meets a young paid companion named Mrs. Van Hopper's employee in Monte Carlo and quickly proposes marriage. She accepts, and the couple returns to Manderley, the grand house above the sea. There she finds the household staff and Mrs. Danvers intensely attached to the memory of Rebecca, Maxim's late first wife, and the new bride struggles to find her place. Lux Radio Theatre presents this adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's novel Rebecca, first broadcast on February 3, 1941, with Ronald Colman as Maxim de Winter, Judith Anderson as Mrs. Danvers, and Ida Lupino as the young wife.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
