What happens
Professor Henry Higgins, a phonetics expert, boasts that he can pass off any cockney flower girl as a duchess, and he bets his friend Colonel Pickering that he can do it with Eliza Doolittle, a flower seller he met one rainy night in Covent Garden. Higgins agrees to teach her to speak properly, and she moves into his London home under his strict regime. When her father, a dustman, arrives demanding money for her, Higgins and Pickering are left uncertain how to respond. This is the Lux Radio Theatre's 1939 broadcast of Pygmalion, adapted from George Bernard Shaw's play, starring Jean Arthur as Eliza and Brian Aherne as Higgins. The episode presents the early stages of the experiment and its moral questions.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
