What happens

Johnny Forbes, a mild insurance investigator in a Los Angeles suburb, is assigned to recover money embezzled by Bill Smiley from his employer, the Continental Finance Company. Tracking the stolen funds leads him to Mona Stevens, Smiley's girlfriend, a model who has accepted gifts bought with the stolen money. Johnny's visits to her begin to change his ordinary routine, while his wife Sue and their young son Tommy remain at home. Meanwhile, a rival investigator named McDonald takes a growing interest in Mona. This is the first act of Pitfall, the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the 1948 motion picture, broadcast on November 8, 1948, starring Dick Powell, Elizabeth Scott and Jane Wyatt.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
