What happens

Skip McCoy, a newly released pickpocket, lifts a wallet from a young woman on a crowded New York subway, unaware it contains a piece of microfilm. Captain Tiger and Mr. Zara, investigators from Washington, track down the thief through a neckwear seller known as Mo, who gives up his name for a price. The woman, Candy, is anxious to recover the wallet, and her associate Joey wants the film returned. Lux Radio Theatre presents this adaptation of Pickup on South Street, a 20th Century Fox film, starring Terry Moore and Stephen McNally, with Thelma Ritter as Mo. The episode first aired on June 21, 1954.

New York City, including the subway, police headquarters, the waterfront, and the Bowery

Characters: Skip McCoy, Candy, Captain Tiger, Mr. Zara, Mo, Joey

Listen for: Mo's bargaining over the cost of information, and the tense exchange between Skip McCoy and the investigators on the waterfront

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
