What happens

Inspector Peterson questions Mildred Pierce after Monty Berrigan is found shot at his lonely beach house near Malibu. Her former husband Bert Pierce is held as the suspect, and Mildred insists he could not have done it. As the inspector probes her past, the story moves back through her broken marriage, her struggle to support her daughter Vida, and her decision to open a restaurant with the help of her partner Wally Faye. This is the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the James M. Cain novel, starring Claire Trevor and Zachary Scott. The broadcast's original air date was June 14, 1954.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
