What happens
Peg O' My Heart follows Peg, a young Irish fisher's daughter, whose father Patrick Seamus O'Connell is visited by lawyer Gerald Markham with news of a two-million-pound inheritance from her English grandfather. The fortune comes with conditions: Peg must live three years with the Chichester family, and her father must give her up entirely. Marion Davies stars as Peg and Brian Ahern as Gerald, with Benita Hume, J. Farrell McDonald and Eileen Pringle in support. The production aired on the Lux Radio Theatre series, and this episode's first part is recorded here with Peg arriving at the Chichester household in England, where her presence is not warmly received.
A fishing village on the west coast of Ireland, then a Chichester family home in England
Characters: Peg, Patrick Seamus O'Connell, Gerald Markham, Mrs. Chichester, Ethel Chichester, Alaric Chichester, Christopher Brent, Jarvis
Listen for: Gerald's explanation of the inheritance conditions to Patrick Seamus, and Peg's first clashes with the Chichester household
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
