What happens

Joan McCauley, a teenager in Los Angeles, competes with her older sister Gail for the attention of Chuck, a young man who has come to install the family's new television set. At a birthday party for Gail, Joan's jealousy boils over, and in a bitter argument she reveals a secret: Gail was adopted. Her parents, Fred and Lois McCauley, are shaken as they explain to Gail how they chose her as a baby and kept the truth from her. Gail, stunned and hurt, begins to consider what the discovery means for her, and she asks to meet the mother she has never known. Robert Wagner, Terry Moore and Joan Evans star in this 1953 Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the film Our Very Own, which first aired on October 5, 1953.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
