What happens

John Richfield, head of Richfield Aircraft in England, watches his daughter Susan and her husband Tony, a test pilot, settle into life together after the war. Tony is driven by the goal of flying faster than sound, a project his father-in-law champions and his wife finds troubling. Susan is torn between loyalty to her father and fear for her husband, and the family's ambitions and old grievances begin to press on all of them. This is the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the 1953 film Breaking the Sound Barrier, broadcast on October 12, 1953, with Robert Newton as John Richfield and Dorothy McGuire as Susan.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
