What happens

Mary Lane, a young woman, secretly married Lieutenant James Emerson during the First World War, before he left for France. Now, in 1929, she is dying, and she has written him a letter explaining their history and their son Jimmy, which she has asked her friend Julia to deliver after she is gone. Meanwhile, James has lost his fortune in the stock market crash and faces ruin at home with his wife Blanche. The Lux Radio Theatre presents this adaptation of the film Only Yesterday, with Barbara Stanwyck as Mary and George Brent as James, with Dorothy Peterson as Julia and Jacqueline Wells as Blanche. The story moves back to 1917 as Mary and James first meet and fall in love.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
