What happens

Kit Marlow, a celebrated novelist, visits her oldest friend Millie Drake in Birchfield, where Millie lives with her husband Preston and expects a baby. Old acquaintances are rekindled over dinner and a party, but Millie's envy and Preston's loneliness begin to show. In a later act, eight years on, Millie has become a prolific bestselling author, and Kit is preparing to open a play in New York. Millie's pressure on her marriage builds to a crisis as Preston decides to leave. The Lux Radio Theatre production, presented under producer Cecil B. DeMille, stars Alexis Smith, Miriam Hopkins and Otto Kruger. The broadcast aired on 1944-05-29 and is based on John Van Druten's play.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
