What happens
Theodore Honey, an absent-minded scientist at the Farnsworth aircraft establishment, is convinced that vibration will cause a reindeer airliner's tail assembly to fail after about 1,440 flight hours. His daughter Elsa and his neighbor Mr. Scott see his work through their own eyes, while his colleagues and the company debate whether to act on his warnings. Honey later boards a transatlantic flight and meets actress Monica Teesdale, who is also aboard. Lux Radio Theatre presents this 1952 adaptation of the film, with James Stewart as Honey and Marlene Dietrich as Teesdale, first broadcast on April 28, 1952.
The Farnsworth aircraft establishment, Honey's home, and a transatlantic airliner bound for Newfoundland.
Characters: Theodore Honey, Monica Teesdale, Marjorie Carter, Elsa, Mr. Scott, Captain Sanderson, Sir John
Listen for: Honey's warning about the tail assembly failing after about 1,440 flight hours, and the captain's decision whether to turn back.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
