What happens
In 1750 France, the king sends a shipload of marriageable young women to the colony of Louisiana, where they will be chosen as brides. Marietta, a headstrong girl unwilling to marry the Duke de Lienne, takes the place of her friend Josephine on the boat. When she escapes into the swamps and the city of New Orleans, Captain Warrington is ordered to find her. Lawrence Tibbett and Helen Jepson star in this Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of Victor Herbert's operetta Naughty Marietta, broadcast on March 28, 1938. The episode covers the first part of the story, in which the captain and the runaway begin to see each other differently.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
