What happens

In 1933 New York, the wealthy Bullock family takes up a scavenger hunt in which socialite Irene Bullock wins by finding a forgotten man at the city dump. She brings Godfrey, a destitute man, back to the family mansion, where he is hired as the butler. Irene becomes fond of him and sets herself up as his sponsor, while her sister Cornelia resents the household's new member. This is an episode of the Lux Radio Theatre, first broadcast on November 9, 1954, and the story is adapted from My Man Godfrey.

New York City, 1933, during the Great Depression: the city dump on the waterfront and the Bullock family's Park Avenue mansion

Characters: Godfrey, Irene Bullock, Cornelia Bullock, Alexander Bullock, Mrs. Bullock, Carlo, Tommy Gray

Listen for: Irene's scavenger hunt and her insistence on making Godfrey her protege, and the family's arguments about him

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
