What happens

Longfellow Deeds, a shy greeting-card poet in the small town of Mandrake Falls, learns that a distant uncle has left him a fortune of about twenty million dollars. Two lawyers, Cedar and Cobb, arrive to deliver the news and soon take him to New York, where Deeds finds the city full of people wanting something from him. He is also drawn to Babe Bennett, a newspaper writer who befriends him. This Lux Radio Theatre production, broadcast on February 1, 1937, stars Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur with Lionel Stander, and is adapted from the Frank Capra film of the same story.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
