What happens
Lynn Belvedere, a self-taught author newly honored for his novel Hummingbird Hill, enrolls as a freshman at Clemens University to finish a four-year course in a single year. Dean Gibbs and President Keating grant him an unusual admission, and he takes a part-time job at the Tri-Gamma sorority house under housemother Mrs. Chase. His roommates Avery Brubaker and Cornelius Whitaker resent his manners, while Ellen Baker, a student reporter for the Daily Lion, pursues him for an interview. Bill, who admires Ellen, becomes a friend of Belvedere's circle. This Lux Radio Theatre production stars Clifton Webb and is based on the Mr. Belvedere film series; the broadcast aired on January 16, 1950.
Clemens University, a college campus in autumn, including the dean's office, a freshman dormitory, and the Tri-Gamma sorority house
Characters: Mr. Belvedere, Ellen Baker, Bill, Dean Gibbs, President Keating, Avery Brubaker, Cornelius Whitaker, Mrs. Chase
Listen for: Belvedere's sharp, witty exchanges with the dean, his roommates, and the sorority housemother, and Ellen's pursuit of an interview that leads to a dispute over an article in the student newspaper
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
