What happens

On Thanksgiving Day in New York City, Macy's public relations manager Doris Walker and her colleague Mr. Shellhammer find a man to play Santa Claus in the store's parade after the original Santa is found intoxicated. The man, who calls himself Chris Kringle, impresses them, and they hire him for the toy department. Doris is a single mother raising her daughter Susan to reject fairy tales, and Chris soon clashes with her over belief in Santa. This Lux Radio Theatre production adapts the 20th Century Fox film, starring Maureen O'Hara, John Payne and Edmund Gwenn, and aired on December 20, 1948.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
