What happens

Dr. Albert Larson, a psychiatrist, is called to the Kendall Sanitarium in London to help Francesca Cunningham, a young woman who attempted suicide and has stopped speaking. Under a mild drug, she recalls her childhood at school, where she was punished for lateness, and her move to live with her guardian, the wealthy Nicholas Brandt. Nicholas, a lame and controlling man, takes charge of her musical training and her life, and he forbids her from marrying the young musician Peter. The episode is a Lux Radio Theatre production of The Seventh Veil, starring Robert Montgomery as Nicholas and Ingrid Bergman as Francesca.

London, the Kendall Sanitarium, and in flashback a girls' school, Nicholas Brandt's house, and concert halls and cafes in Europe and London

Characters: Dr. Albert Larson, Dr. Kendall, Francesca Cunningham, Nicholas Brandt, Susan, Miss Duncan, Parker, Peter

Listen for: Francesca's recollections of her schooldays and her years under Nicholas Brandt's control

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
