What happens

Annette Kellerman, an Australian swimmer, arrives in London with her father, a music teacher, hoping to study ballet with his former colleague Mr. Crocker. They find that Crocker has died, leaving them without funds. Showman James Sullivan, who travels with a boxing kangaroo named Sydney, becomes enthusiastic about Annette's swimming and proposes a publicity stunt. Annette swims down the Thames to Greenwich, and Sullivan begins to plan a larger water carnival. The story is adapted from the life of Annette Kellerman and is told in the Lux Radio Theatre version starring Esther Williams and Alfred Hopper.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
