What happens

In post-war Czechoslovakia, circus owner Carol Cernik, now only the manager of the Cernik Circus after it was nationalized, is summoned by secret police for questioning. Officials pressure him over his performance, his radio and his private meetings, and warn that the circus could be liquidated. Cernik's daughter Teresa, meanwhile, is drawn to the young mechanic Joe Voswick, whose past is unknown to the troupe. This is Lux Radio Theatre's 1953 adaptation of the 20th Century Fox film Man on a Tightrope, broadcast on 1953-12-07, starring Edward G. Robinson and Terry Moore. Tension mounts as suspicion falls on the company.

Post-war Communist Czechoslovakia, a traveling circus near the town of Pilsen and the border with Bavaria

Characters: Carol Cernik, Teresa, Joe Voswick, Barovik, Fesker, Zama

Listen for: The police interrogation of Cernik and the tense confrontation with Barovik in the office wagon

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
