What happens
Blackie Gallagher, a gambling-house owner, and Jim Wade, a district attorney, grew up together as boys on the East Side of New York after the General Slocum disaster. Their paths split: Blackie runs crooked joints while Jim works to clean up the city. Both fall in love with Eleanor, and tensions rise between them. The Lux Radio Theatre presents Manhattan Melodrama, the premiere of its seventh season, starring William Powell as Jim Wade, Myrna Loy as Eleanor and Clark Gable as Blackie.

Listen for: Listen for the tension between Blackie and Jim as they compete for Eleanor, and for the moment Blackie's coat is found at a murder scene.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
