What happens
Leonard Beebe, a clerk at the Kincaid Piano Company, hopes to win promotion to chief clerk. His wife Elsie helps him impress the company's boss, Mr. Kincaid, by inventing a story about owning a Kincaid piano, which leads the Kincaids to visit their home one Saturday afternoon. Leonard and Elsie hope the visit will bring Leonard an invitation to the company's annual banquet, where he will be expected to give a speech. Money worries and a grapefruit farm they bought in Florida weigh on the couple. This is a romantic comedy by George S. Kaufman and Mark Connelly, adapted for the Lux Radio Theatre, broadcast on July 8, 1940, starring Helen Hayes and Otto Kruger.
The Kincaid Piano Company offices and the Beebes' home in an American city, late 1930s.

Listen for: Leonard's attempts to impress Mr. Kincaid, and Elsie's frank advice about his speech.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
