What happens

Robert Merrick, a reckless young man, is blamed when the celebrated brain specialist Dr. Wayne Hudson drowns after a rescue boat was not available for him. Merrick survives and is moved by the doctor's widow, Helen Hudson, who has been left nearly penniless. The Lux Radio Theatre presents Irene Dunn and Robert Taylor in Magnificent Obsession, a 1937 drama adapted from the novel by Dr. Lloyd C. Douglas. Merrick later reveals an accident that threatens Helen's sight, and he begins to learn the late doctor's secret of giving help without repayment. The episode was broadcast on April 26, 1937.

Listen for: Randolph explaining Dr. Hudson's formula of helping people in secret and never letting them repay you

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
