What happens
Reggie Kane, a manicurist, works at a Hollywood hotel and dreams of wealth. Her wealthy client Alan Maclin is a friend who has feelings for her, but she is drawn to Theodore Drew the Third, a young millionaire she meets at a restaurant after a manicure. The evening ends with Ted unconscious in a taxi, and Reggie takes him to a hotel room. Next day, Reggie learns Ted is engaged to a wealthy heiress, and Ted asks to move in with her while he waits for his boat to Bermuda. This Lux Radio Theatre broadcast was aired on May 3, 1937, and stars Claudette Colbert and Joel McCrea, with Walter Pidgeon and Gloria Holden also appearing.
Hollywood, California, in the 1930s: a manicure shop in a hotel arcade, a hotel suite, a restaurant, and a city taxi at night.
Characters: Reggie Kane, Alan Maclin, Theodore Drew the Third, Red, Peter, Nona, Vivian Snowden, Togo
Listen for: Reggie's clipped, wisecracking manicurist voice and Ted's flustered, polite patter as their first manicure turns into a dinner date.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
