What happens
Alibi Ike Farrell, a rookie pitcher with a talent for excuses, joins the Chicago Cubs at their spring training camp in Winterhaven, Florida. Manager Cap Finley is skeptical after Farrell arrives late, claiming his calendar was wrong. Farrell charms the team and draws the attention of Dolly Stevens, sister of a teammate's wife, who grows fond of him. Farrell's boasting and his many excuses keep the players and the manager guessing about how much of his talk is true. This episode is the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the Warner Brothers film, based on the story by Ring Lardner, and it is presented as a tribute to baseball's origins.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
