What happens

In 1918 New York, attorney Alan Cartwright worries over his sick four-year-old son Raymond, whose recovery is assured by the doctor. Alan has been estranged from his wife Jacqueline, who left him two years earlier, and he refuses to let her see the boy. Jacqueline pleads with him at the house, and the story follows the bitter breakdown of their marriage and its effect on their family. This is the Lux Radio Theatre production of Madame X, presented from Hollywood on Monday, June 14, 1937, with Ann Harding, James Stewart and Conway Tearle in the leading roles.

New York City and later Hollywood, 1918 onward

Listen for: Jacqueline's pleas to see her son, and Alan's refusal in the library scene

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
