What happens
Steve Allen and his wife Susan prepare to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary, but their evening is disrupted by an overbearing aunt, a jealous misunderstanding and a series of mishaps in their building. Steve's old flame Isabel Grayson lives on the same floor, and a stuck elevator and a borrowed pair of shoes add to the confusion. Susan hears rumours about her husband's whereabouts and begins to doubt him. This episode of the Lux Radio Theatre, aired on October 5, 1942, stars William Powell as Steve and Hedy Lamarr as Susan, with the production introduced by Cecil B. DeMille.
An apartment building in an American city, with the Allens' apartment, the elevator, the neighbouring Grayson apartment and a divorce lawyer's office.
Characters: Steve Allen, Susan Allen, Aunt Betty, Isabel Grayson, Mr. Grayson, Ward Willoughby, George, Aunt Laura
Listen for: The stuck elevator sequence, where Steve climbs out through the emergency hatch, and the escalating misunderstanding between Steve and Susan over his evening.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
