What happens

Kitty, an illiterate young woman from the Houndsditch slums of London, is taken in by the painter Thomas Gainsborough, who sees beauty beneath her rags and paints her as an anonymous lady. Sir Hugh Marcy, a ruined and debt-ridden former government man, takes an interest in her and begins to train her in manners so she can pass as a lady in society. The Lux Radio Theatre production of Kitty stars Paulette Goddard as Kitty and Patrick Knowles as Sir Hugh, and is broadcast on February 24, 1947. Kitty's new position brings admirers, a proposal from a wealthy ironmonger, and new complications.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
