What happens

Emily and Charlotte Brontë, with their brother Branwell and sister Anne, live on the Yorkshire moors in the 1830s. Branwell wants to become a painter, and the sisters take work as governesses to help pay for his training. Mr. Nichols, the new curate, grows close to Emily while his own troubles with drink and temper emerge. Emily and Charlotte are both drawn into conflicts over love, family duty and their ambitions to write. This Lux Radio Theatre production is an adaptation of the Warner Brothers film Devotion, and it stars Jane Wyman as Emily, Virginia Bruce as Charlotte and Vincent Price as Mr. Nichols. It was broadcast on February 17, 1947.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
