What happens

Hugh Morgan looks back on his boyhood in a small Welsh coal mining valley, once green and beautiful but now ugly with slag heaps and smoke. He remembers the miners' proud Saturday paydays and the happy days of his family. When the owners cut wages, his father Gwilym opposes the men's strike, and the family is torn apart as the valley turns against him. Young Hugh is crippled in a winter accident, and the new minister, Mr. Griffith, offers him faith and encouragement. This radio adaptation of the 1941 film How Green Was My Valley, part of the Lux Radio Theatre series, was broadcast on 21 September 1942. The cast includes Walter Pidgeon, Donald Crisp, Maureen O'Hara, Roddy McDowall and Sara Allgood.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
