What happens
Lou Marsh runs his grandfather's drugstore in the small town of Hartfield, where his grandson Rusty, a young Navy man, is away at sea. Grandpa Marsh, long dead, appears to Lou as a ghost after Lou receives a telegram that Rusty has been killed in action. The Lux Radio Theatre production, presented by Cecil B. DeMille, is an adaptation of McKinley Kantor's novel Happy Land, which 20th Century Fox made into a film. Donna Reed, Frances Dee and Walter Brennan star. Lou resists his minister and his wife Agnes, and Grandpa Marsh encourages him to walk through the town. Through their talk, Lou revisits memories of Rusty as a boy.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
