What happens
Robert Jordan, an American fighting for the Republic in the Spanish Civil War, is sent into the mountains of Segovia to blow up a bridge before an offensive. He is guided by Anselmo to a band of partisans led by Pablo, who resents foreigners and refuses to let him use his dynamite. Jordan stays with the group, and Maria, a young woman who survived a massacre, becomes close to him. Pablo's drinking and the tension between the men and their leader grow as the mission is delayed. This Lux Radio Theatre production is adapted from Ernest Hemingway's novel For Whom the Bell Tolls, with Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman, and aired on February 12, 1945.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
