What happens
Timothy Borden, a wealthy industrialist, is frustrated on his birthday by business troubles and his family's indifference. Sitting alone on a park bench, he meets Mary Gray, a young woman with no job and no home, and the two spend an evening together at a nightclub. Lux Radio Theatre presents Fifth Avenue Girl, broadcast on December 16, 1940, starring Ginger Rogers as Mary, Edward Arnold as Timothy, John Howard as his son Tim, and Joan Perry as his daughter Catherine. The Borden household is thrown into dissension by Mary's arrival, and Tim feels personally affronted by her presence in the family's home.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
