What happens
Elmer Kane, a small-town delivery boy in Gentryville, Indiana, is offered a contract to pitch for the New York Giants and at first turns it down. His mother and the grocery store owner Nellie Poole urge him to reconsider. The Lux Radio Theatre production stars Joey Brown as Elmer and June Travis as Nellie. Elmer's reluctance leads to a private conversation with Nellie, and the story then moves to the Giants' spring training in Florida, where Elmer's teammates prepare to deal with him.

Characters: Elmer Kane, Nellie Poole, Mrs. Kane, Nick, Mr. Wade, Walker, Doyle, Dave
Listen for: Elmer's changing decision about the Giants contract and the conversation with Nellie that shapes it
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
