What happens

In the frontier town of Bottleneck, Johnny Kent controls the valley crossing and is pushing out the cattlemen who depend on it. Sheriff Watson has left town, and the mayor installs Washington Dimsdale, a drunk, as the new sheriff. Dimsdale sends for Tom Destry, the son of a famous lawman, who arrives on the stage and refuses to carry a gun. Lux Radio Theatre presents this 1945 adaptation of Destry Rides Again, with Jimmy Stewart as Tom Destry and Joan Blondell as Frenchy, and William Keeley as producer. Destry sets about winning the town over by reason rather than force, while the cattleman Claggett fights to keep his ranch.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
