What happens

King David rules Israel during a long siege, weary of war and lonely in his grief for Jonathan. He summons Bathsheba, the wife of his captain Uriah, and the two grow close. Lux Radio Theatre presents this 1954 adaptation of the Biblical story, starring Ava Gardner as Bathsheba and Michael Rennie as David, with the broadcast first airing on October 19, 1954. The early scenes establish David's sorrow, his strained ties with his first wife Michael and the tension between his duty and his longing, as Bathsheba agrees to his request despite her marriage to a soldier who is away at war.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
